BMW Chennai plant rolls out first MINI produced outside Europe

Back in April 2013, BMW announced that they will begin local production of MINI at their plant in Chennai. This makes BMW Chennai plant as the first and only one to produce the iconic MINI, outside of Europe. Today, they reveal that the first locally produced MINI Countryman has rolled off the production line.

BMW India has two aces up its sleeve. The first is commencement of local production of MINI at their company plant based in Chennai and second is the launch of its first diesel powered MINI in the country.

For India, diesel MINI is available in two trim levels – Countryman and Countryman High. These are being produced in India via the CKD route and sport 1.6 liter diesel engines. These engines are said to be the cleanest and most fuel efficient offering auto emissions at 115 g/km and mileage of 19.5 kmpl as per ARAI reports.
